Check/correct internal gains from in-unit DHW pipes

I'm not sure we're interpreting Table 18 from the December 2008 Benchmark correctly. Our options have either "interior" or "exterior" for the pipe locations.

Our "interior" case matches the "basement or conditioned space" entry in Table 18.
Our "exterior" case matches the "unconditioned attic and conditioned space, non-freezing climate" entry in Table 18.

Here are some questions I have:

Do we need more detailed names than interior or exterior? People might be using "exterior" for unheated basements and crawlspaces, where "interior" might be more appropriate.

For our "exterior" case, should we be putting the gains in an attic? Or is the equation for the portion of gains that go to the conditioned space?

Perhaps we should just model the in-unit pipes in EnergyPlus instead.

Just saw the code where we zero out the gains if location is "exterior". So my second question no longer applies, though it would be good to make this more explicit.
